If you haven’t finished your Christmas Shopping, be thankful that this isn’t your Christmas list! For the 38th year, the PNC Christmas Price Index (CPI) has been compiled to check just how much it would cost if you were to put each item in the 12 Days of Christmas under someone’s tree.
For 2021 the cost Christmas Price Index, PNC is comparing against the costs from pre-pandemic 2019 to have a more realistic comparison excluding this past year’s extraordinary economic impact.
The total cost of the 2021 CPI comes in at just $41,205.58, a 5.7% increase over the 2019 tally of $38,993.59.
However, if one was to purchase each and every one of the gifts given by the True Love including each repetition of the song, totaling 364 presents the total would leap up to a whopping $179,454.19, a 5.4% increase over 2019.
Individually, the Six Geese-A-Laying have had the largest 2021 over 2019 increase, rising by 57.1%, with the Two-Turtle Doves following closely behind at a 50% increase. As usual, the most expensive day of the twelve is the Seven Swans A-Swimming, coming in at $13,125.00! Perhaps highlighting the continued gender wage-gap, the 8 Maids-A-Milking and 9 Ladies Dancing have not increased their prices, however the 10 Lords-A-Leaping, Eleven Pipers Piping, and Twelve Drummers Drumming all made modest price increases.
