The winners of this year’s BC Book Prizes were announced at the 33rd annual Lieutenant Governor’s BC Book Prizes Gala on April 29 at the Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront in downtown Vancouver.
The BC Book Prizes celebrate the achievements of British Columbia writers and publishers. Awards were presented in seven categories from all around the province and covering multiple genres children’s, fiction and non-fiction
Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize – The Heaviness of Things That Float by Jennifer Manuel (Douglas and McIntyre)
Roderick Haig-Brown Regional Prize – Mapping My Way Home: A Gitxsan History by Neil J. Sterritt (Creekstone Press)
Hubert Evans Non-Fiction Prize – A Disappearance in Damascus: A Story of Friendship and Survival in the Shadow of War by Deborah Campbell (Knopf Canada)
Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize – If I Were in a Cage I’d Reach Out for You by Adèle Barclay (Nightwood Editions)
Sheila A. Egoff Children’s Literature Prize – The Skeleton Tree by Iain Lawrence (Tundra Books)
Christie Harris Illustrated Children’s Literature Prize – My Heart Fills With Happiness by Monique Gray Smith and Julie Flett (Orca Book Publishers)
Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award – Embers: One Ojibway’s Meditations by Richard Wagamese (Douglas and McIntyre)-
