We recently had the opportunity to stop in and try Benkei Noodle Shop on Broadway (near Cambie). With the plethora of ramen shops downtown, mostly in the Robson area, it’s not often we have the need or opportunity to venture to the Uptown ‘hood. Benkei is a good find for a quick lunch or dinner when we’re in the area again. Having read some negative reviews of the service, we found everyone to be pleasant, attentive and the food came quite promptly.
I ordered the Miso Ramen to try their version of their staple, it was a nice flavour broth with a good amount of bamboo shoots and bean sprouts and a couple of nice slices of chashu. Additional toppings are available for 50cents each to customize your bowl. The noodles are cooked to a good al dente texture, just enough chew.
Billy opted for the summer special cold noodles, a beautifully presented tray of chilled noodles, broth, veggies, chashu and boiled egg to mix together in proportions as desired.
A side of three gyoza were a perfect add-on to make a good meal. While only a small shop, the menu was larger than expected.
Open from 11am until 10:45pm 7 days per week, Benkei Noodle Shop is a good choice for lunch, dinner and late night bites.
