Last night, the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics came to a close. Team Canada came away with one of the most successful Games ever, matching their highest medal count (in a non-boycotted Games) with 22 Gold, Silver & Bronze.
While some sports excelled and exceeded expectations, Aquatics & Athletics, some faltered from the previous achievements, Rowing & Kayak. Women took great strides to lead Team Canada with 84% of the medals, boosted by the Bronze medals performances of the Canadian Women’s Rugby Sevens and Soccer teams. Some athletes became household names, Penny Oleksiak & Andre de Grasse to name but two. Records were broken, even by our many fourth place finishers, showing the depth of competition in these Games.
During this show of athletic prowess, Canadian all across the world took a break on Saturday night as CBC broadcast the final Tragically Hip concert from Kingston. The Tragically Hip : A National Celebration was watched by an estimated 11.7 millions people.
To wrap up the Rio 2016 Games, CBC combined these two events with a touching montage of Games highlights set to “Ahead By A Century”.

With many of the Team Canada members being relatively young, the future looks bright for Tokyo 2020.
