Cyndi Lauper – Rogers Arena – June 27, 2014
Opening the night for Cher’s Dressed to Kill concert, Cyndi Lauper had the audience in their seats early at Rogers Arena so not to miss the effervescent pop star. An legend in her own right, Ms Lauper was a great warm up before the Cher spectacular to follow, celebrating the 30th anniversary of her iconic “She’s So Unusual” album.
Entering the arena by running through the audience dressed as a Canadian Mountie and surrounded by a ‘posse’ of local ladies. Cyndi got the energy up immediately with “She-Bop”, then followed with a setlist of many of her best known tracks from her discography but heavily emphasizing the well remembered “She’s So Unusual” singles.
The singer kept the audience enthused with her witty anecdotes of working in the Ontario wilderness as a youth and her comments on the many Pride weekends happening around the world while applauding Canada’s open mindedness. Since nearly every song was a familiar hit, the audience sang-along nearly her whole set, reaching a peak during “True Colors” and “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” before closing the set with a great soulful version of “At Last”.
Cyndi Lauper continues on the Dressed To Kill Tour until July 11, 2014.
