Saturday was our first event of the 2016 Dine Out Vancouver Festival, Gastown Brunch Crawl. Presented with Vancouver Foodster, the morning food tour took diners on a tasty trip around the Gastown neighbourhood.
The morning rain gradually gave way as the seven participating restaurants presented their morning delights.
Starting off at Prado Cafe, to check-in and pick up the Brunch Crawl passport, the Cafe offered a kick start to Gastown Brunch Crawl with a selection of their coffee drinks
Next door, Zero Zero Pizzeria offered a taste of the pizzas on their soon to begin brunch menu – the hearty Zero Zero Pizza has potato, weiners, cheese, olives on a focaccia-like pizza crust. The Pizzetta Matina is scrambled eggs, potato, tomato, greens on a crisp thin crust made a great breakfast pie.
The Smallflower Cage and Bakeshop presented a vegan and gluten-free three courses of soup, bbq tofu slider and a mini vegan ice cream drumstick to finish.
Next we had a collaboration from The Birds and The Beets Cafe and Grain. The Birds and The Beets included Grain’s sprouted grains in their salad alongside their thin house-baked crisp bread with lentil spread and a whole grain chocolate chip cookie.
Across the street Rodney’s Oyster House, breakfast was served with a Crabcake Eggs Benny and a Smoked Salmon Croque Madam, both highlighting that there’s more to Rodney’s than just oysters (although Billy couldn’t resist ordering a few fresh oysters on the side).
There was a line up at BaoDown Gastown as the diners waited for the restaurant to begin service with a Morning Glory Bao; bits of spicy sausage, bacon, omelette, hollandaise and banana ketchup.
Last up the pop-up preview of The Capilano Tea and Soda Co, our Gastown Brunch Crawl wrapped up with a cleansing cuppa; Warm Grey and Berry Tea were on offer along with a selection of their sweet and savoury pastries.
On Sunday Brunch Crawl visited Olympic Village and more Brunch Crawls are happening every weekend of Dine Out Vancouver Festival. Watch for more recaps from the next few weeks and if you’d like to join in on the tasty fun, get your tickets now.
