An audience favourite, do you want what i have got? a craigslist cantata is back at The Cultch Historic Theatre, in a brand new virtual performance.
The personal ads may no longer exist on Craigslist but voyeuristic delight of reading them lives on in this musical revue by Bill Richardson, Veda Hille and Amiel Gladstone. A quirky cast of characters step out of the Craigslist community and onto the stage as they attempt to buy and sell online, all the while longing and searching for those elusive missed connections.
do you want what i have got? a craigslist cantata is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed shows to come out of Vancouver in the last decade. This revival has been adapted with a virtual spin in keeping with the current state of social distancing and isolation. Director Amiel Gladstone and choreographer Amanda Testini have the unique task of creating a live-streamed show with the cast in rooms all around The Cultch’s Historic Theatre. The result is a witty and timely update on physical distancing featuring a talented local cast – Meaghan Chenosky, Josh Epstein, Chirag Naik, Amanda Sum, and Andrew Wheeler – that can’t help but make you laugh with their straight faced delivery of some of the most ridiculous lyrics.
On top of the producing a work of live theatre in separate spaces, the technical team also had to live-stream each one of the locations, including the live music Veda Hilleon piano, keyboards, performing alongside Barry Mirochnick on drums. With multiple performers appearing in the same number the seamless appearance of up to four rooms onscreen was extremely well coordinated and broadcast.
