The 2015 DOXA Documentary Film Festival wrapped up on Sunday with closing night film “Iris” preceded by the 2015 festival awards.
The 2015 Jurors choose the following films in the four categories;
Nigel Moore Award for Youth Programming: Victoria Lean for “After The Last River”
DOXA Short Documentary Award: Dan Popa for “Island & Flight”
Colin Low Award for Canadian Documentary presented by William F. White: Kevin Nikkel for “On the Trail of the Far Fur Country”
DOXA Feature Documentary Award: Anna Roussillon for “Je suis le peuple (I Am the People)”
The DOXA closing night film “Iris” is a brilliant documentary about “Octogenarian Starlet” Iris Apfel, a New York City fashion and interior design icon known for her style and company “Old World Weavers”. A 2005 MoMa exhibit celebrating her astounding personal style and collection of clothing and accessories propelled her to legendary status. The final movie by documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles, “Iris” is a treat to watch, the story of 94 year old Ms Apfel and her 100 year old husband Carl is an energizing and educating life lesson.
DOXA has wrapped for 2015 but if you get the chance to see “Iris” you’ll surely enjoy it.
If you missed DOXA, the Best of DOXA is coming up May 23 & 24, your final chance to see four of the Festival’s faves. Buy tickets online at doxafestival.ca
