Today’s Friday Find, Abeego the original beeswax food wrap, is as useful as it is unique. Victoria creator, Toni Desrosiers has created a way to preserve your food that’s as natural as can be without leaving it in the peel.
Abeego is a reusable, all-natural, breathable food wrap that’d designed to pick where the peel leaves off. Washable and versatile, the beeswax infused beeswax sheets are durable and reduce your waste by eliminating other disposable single-use wraps and storage bags. By keeping your food fresher longer, you’ll waste less. Beeswax is naturally anti-bacterial and the Abeego formula helps prevent salmonella from forming so your food is safer too.
The Abeego sheets come in 4 sizes; giant, large, medium, small in order to fit all sorts of food. The sheets are strong enough to be fitted over a container or wrapped tight around a half an onion and delicate enough to fold into a parcel to protect your fine herds.
While the scent of beeswax is familiar and comforting, I was worried that it would transfer to the food but I’ve wrapped and rewrapped and there’s no beeswax residual carried over to the food itself. At room temperature the sheet is malleable, making it easy to work with to wrap your food. In the fridge, the Abeego becomes stiffer and holds it shape.
After use, wash the the Abeego sheet in cold water with biodegradable, alcohol-free soap. Don’t worry if there’s some stuck-on food or marks, the cold sheet will be stiff and washable like a plate so scrub away.
