Picks of the Week – March 20, 2019

Finally, Spring has arrived, with record breaking temperatures this week to wake us from our Winter slumber and get out and enjoy these picks of the week.

Conduct: The Gateway Theatre spring production, Gross Misconduct, tackles the topics related to the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, running until March 23rd.

Blooms: What’s spring without flowers, Metropolis at Metrotown’s Grand Court is the site of Blossom at Metropolis, an awe-inspiring, one-of-a-kind art installation made up of more than 250,000 cherry blossoms, until March 31

Diva: If you missed it last night at the Chan Centre but you’re in Victoria tonight, catch Piaf! The Show, a musical celebration of the life and music of the legendary French chanteuse, Edith Piaf as performed by Anne Carrere at The Royal Theatre

Cars: Does spring make you want to drop the top on a convertible and get out on the road in a new car? Find out what’s new on four wheels at the Vancouver International Auto Show, on until Sunday at the Vancouver Convention Centre

Dance: The Vancouver International Dance Festival keep the city moving as it brings world of dance to stages around town until March 30th.

Soldier: At the Arts Club Goldcorp Stage at BMO Theatre Centre, Hardline Productions’ Redpatch tells the story of indigenous soldiers in WWI, on stag March 7 – 31.

Composer: The 2019 Sonic Boom Festival brings four days of new music created by BC’s finest composers, performed by some of the province’s most talented musicians at Pyatt Hall and Orpheum Annex March 21 – 24

Musical: Until Saturday, you can stumble outta bed and head to The Blueshore at CapU to catch 9 to 5: the Musical, Dolly Parton’s musical adaptation of the 80s film.

Hot: The bold, brash and beautifully entertaining troupe of Hot Honey Brown returns to The Cultch to turn up the heat, deliver lashings of sass and a hot pinch of empowerment, from March 15 – 30.

Francophone: Festival du Bois celebrates its 30th year of bringing francophone and French Canadian music and culture to BC audiences. Running from March 22-24, open to all ages at Mackin Park, Maillardville, Coquitlam

Puppet: The Cultch brings Mind of a Snail Puppet Co.’s Multiple Organism to the Vancity Culture Lab March 19-30, with nudity, projections, puppetry original music, and more to this eclectic work

Pucks: As the end of the season draws near, Vancouver Canucks play host to Ottawa tonight and Calgary on Saturday at Rogers Arena
