Picks of the Week – October 22, 2014

Halloween is sneaking up on us, it’s lurking just around the corner but there’s still a lot of other activities and fun to see and do in the city without putting on a costume or trick-or-treating. The Picks of the Week include:

Writers: the Vancouver International Writer’s Festival is underway with hundreds of events centered around Granville Island until October 26th

Gig: Portland’s Blitzen Trapper is sure to fill the house when they take the stage at The Biltmore Cabaret tonight, October 22nd

Concert: Kodaline, bring their Irish rock to the Commodore Ballroom tonight

Play: The Arts Club Theatre Company’s newest play, Saint Joan, opens Thursday October 23rd running until November 23rd.

Singer: Bringing his irresistible pop, singer/songwriter Jason Mraz plays to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Thursday night.

Vogue: Grammy award winning singer, Patty Griffin, supports her latest release “American Kid” at the Vogue Theatre on Thursday evening.

Jane: Thursday, head to 303 Columbia and take a step into Jane’s Dreamhouse with Jane Smokr, a poptastic, bubblegum, 90’s evening of fun and fivolity.

Event: Friday night, sees The Airborne Toxic Event playing The Commodore Ballroom

Electro: Saturday night’s alright (for dancing) when electro-pop duo Chromeo bring their upbeat beats to the Vogue Theatre.

Finale: The Whitecaps play their final match of the regular season, with a playoff berth at stake, when they take on Colorado Rapids on Saturday.

Legend: Canadian icon, Gordon Lightfoot, plays the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Saturday night.

Hell: Start your Halloween early with Vancouver Pride Society’s The Haunting II: Dragged to Hell party at the Commodore Ballroom on Saturday night.

Pucks: Can the Canucks rebound from a loss to regain their winning start to the season? Find out Sunday at Rogers Arena against Washington Capitals.
