In a neighbourhood with its fair share of fresh food and vegetarian options, Saladworks first Canadian locations has opened and will make a welcome addition to Yaletown.
Since it opened two weeks ago, Billy (@billyforce) and I have been a number of times, since it’s only a block and half from home, and have been happy and satisfied each time. It’s not just the restaurant that’s local, the ingredients are as well. While Saladworks may be a large chain with restaurants throughout the US, Saladworks Canada works with local farms to ensure their produce is “Fanatic’ly Fresh” as their tagline says. Lettuce from Fable Farms in Pitt Meadows, Rossdown Farms & Natural Foods’ chickens, Sakura Farms’ pork and other produce from Hazelmere Farms and Covert Farms makes sure you know where the food comes from.
While name suggests a salad bar, this is much more than the common pick it and pack it salad bar we’re used to. This isn’t sold by weight like some of the other salad places, which can be very expensive, Saladworks Menu is very reasonable with most items under $12, and as an added bonus Kids eat free on weekends.
Everything in the shop is tidy and organized behind the glass counter for the staff to build your salad for you. Patrons can select from one of a dozen pre-designed signature salads, loaded with toppings and a custom dressing or choose to create their own from the 50+ toppings. Another difference is the unique carvery salads and sandwiches; steak, chicken and porchetta fire-grilled to order in house and piled on top of a salad or in a sandwich. Billy and I have had some of each type between us and are impressed by the quantity and quality of the carvery selections and the signature salads are a meal in themselves. Even the sandwich and half-salad combo is an ample meal, we haven’t had the home made soups yet but I’m sure they’ll live up to the reputation of the rest of the menu.
