This month, summer comes to (formerly Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza) at 630 Hamilton Street. Sunset cinema and dance enliven the square outside the theatre while comedy, music and art take hold inside.
Dance Dance Dance! This Friday, August 12 dust off your dancing shoes and join Dance in Transit for an outdoor FREE Latin dance class and social dance. Learn Tango with Santiago & Deborah, DJ Santiago from 6:30 to 9:30pm. Classes may be moved indoors if there is inclement weather.

Vancouver Civic Theatres invites all movie lovers to Sunset Cinema, a free outdoor movie series. Bring your friends and family, pull up a blanket, cushion or chair to enjoy a hit movie on the giant inflatable screen under the stars. Four hit movies await audiences throughout the month:

Movies begin shortly after sunset, weather permitting. Arrive early to for pre-show entertainment and to ensure a spot to view the films.

Not all the the entertainment is outside at the Queen E this month, comedian Chelsea Handler brings her Vaccinated and Horny Tour to the stage tonight.
Then, taking the stage August 16-28, Broadway Across Canada presents the Tony Award winning musical Come From Away, telling the heartwarming true tale of of 7,000 stranded airline passengers and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomes them.

Vancouver Civic Theatres wrap up the month with a free Visual Arts Gallery Open House at Queen Elizabeth Theatre, with a summer exhibition by Desirée Patterson. A local photographic artist, Desirée Patterson’s career began during a journey throughout forty countries across four continents. As she documented her extensive travels, she repeatedly observed exhausted environments and impoverished situations. These experiences impacted Patterson deeply, they served as a catalyst inspiring the themes and direction of her art practice.
The exhibition also features work from graduates of the Vancouver Community College’s Jewellery Art and Design program. The Open House evening will include live music performed by Zach Saunders, and is free for all ages event from 5:00pm to 8:00pm in the lobbies of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre with a no-host bar.
