Vancouver Foodster Iced Summer Drink Challenge Is On.

Vancouver Foodster has the perfect way to beat the heat this summer with the Iced Summer Drink Challenge. Running from July 5th to 28th, Vancouver Foodster has challenged cafes and restaurants around Metro Vancouver to create their best iced drink for the summer.

There’s plenty of variety so get out and try any or all of the unique Iced Summer Drinks entries prepared by the participating cafes.

The restaurants have entered their favourite chilled beverage, either from their existing menu or come up with a unique recipe for their Vancouver Foodster Best Iced Summer Drink Challenge cup. The chef’s entries range from simple to fancy, their refreshing beverage creation can made of coffee, tea, soda, lemonade, frappe, shake or kombucha based drink, using unique and innovative ingredients.

As with all of Vancouver Foodster’s food challenges, a panel of media judges (including myself, @pigoutyvr and @shelleyhayashi) will taste and crown the Judges’ Choice Best Summer Drink.  The public is also invited to try any or all of the entries, then vote for their fave to claim the title of People’s Choice Iced Summer Drink creation at vancouverfoodster.com/ice-summer-drink-challenge. Vancouver Foodster Sushi Roll Challenge – Results

The Vancouver Foodster Sushi Roll Challenge has wrapped up, and the results are in! From September 18th to October 7th, public and media judges including Deanna Woo, Shelley Hayashi and myself were out and about trying the participating restaurants’ Sushi Roll Challenge entries.

Four diverse entries from around Vancouver tickled our taste buds. As with all Vancouver Foodster food challenges, chefs were invited to be as innovative and adventurous as they desired in order to highlight their skills and establishment, this challenge was on-trend with rolls including aburi, poke, no-carbs to offer something for everyone.
It was a difficult, and tasty, task to judge the entries, I’m sure the public had just as much fun trying to decide their faves, as well.

Van Foodster’s #SushiRollChallengeYVR rolls out

Get ready to roll! The Vancouver Foodster Sushi Roll Challenge is underway September 18 – October 7, 2018.

Vancouver Foodster has invited a quartet of Sushi Chefs to create their best sushi roll to enter in the Challenge.  The Chefs were challenged to be creative, and present something best representative of their establishment, whether it be traditional Futomaki, Hosomaki, Temaki or any new creative style of rolled sushi.  Above all, taste needs to be the star, fresh, unique with plenty of umami and care rolled into the foll are all to be considered.

Vancouver Foodster Iced Tea Challenge – Results

The 2018 Vancouver Foodster Iced Tea Challenge has wrapped up, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying the cool brewed entries from the six Vancouver & Richmond teahouses. With this hot weather all of them will help refresh your palate during a day in the sun.

From July 12 – August 5, 2018, the public and the trio of media judges, including myself, Maggi Mei and Andrew Chan, set about tasting and selecting their favourites from Boba Monster, Sencha Tea Lounge, T-Go Tea, Taan Char, Treasure Green Tea & Vietnamese Tea House.  Like all Vancouver Foodster challenges, the chefs were invited to be as creative as they like with their iced tea entry, either highlighting an already existing menu item or create a wholly unique dish.  The tea masters created a wide variety of iced black, fruit, milk teas and more that made selecting a favourite a difficult, but thoroughly enjoyable, task to choose the Judges’ Choice Winner. I’m sure the public vote was equally as difficult of a selection process.

Vancouver Foodster Chicken Wings Challenge 2018 Results

The 2018 Vancouver Foodster Chicken Wing Challenge has wrapped up with the trio of dishes being offered by Metro Vancouver restaurants. From July 21 – July 15, 2018, the trio of media judges and public tasting and selecting their favourites from Davie Dosa Company, Ban Chok Dee Thai, and U & I Thai restaurants.

Like all Vancouver Foodster challenges, the chefs were invited to be as creative as they like with their Chicken Wing entry, either highlighting an already existing menu item or create a wholly unique dish.

In the 2018 Best Chicken Wings Challenge, the three chefs plated their chicken wings, at five of their eateries all across Metro Vancouver, from Langley to West End, Vancouver.  The public was encouraged to try any or all the  Chicken Wings entries and then vote on Vancouver Foodster’s website for their favourites to be crowned People’s Choice Best Chicken Wings.  A panel of media judging, including myself, Sherman Chan and Joyce Lam also had the hard, but tasty, job of trying all the selections to choose the Judges’ Choice Winner.

Wing It with Vancouver Foodster Chicken Wings Challenge

The Vancouver Foodster Chicken Wings Challenge is back for its 2018 edition with more tasty and creative chicken dishes.

Vancouver Foodster 5th Taco Challenge – Recap

The votes are in and the 5th Vancouver Foodster Taco Challenge crown has been decided.  Over the past weeks, public and a panel of media judges, including myself, have been tasting and voting for our favourite tacos.

As with other Vancouver Foodster challenges, chefs were invited to be as creative as they like in order to highlight an already existing menu item or they could create a completely unique dish for their Taco Challenge entry.

For the 5th Taco Challenge, six chefs wrapped up their take on tacos, resulting in a great diversity of flavours to sample.  The tacos were served at eight different eateries from all across the region, from Chilliwack to Richmond and downtown Vancouver.  The public was encouraged to try any or all the Taco Challenge entries and then vote on Vancouver Foodster’s website for their favourites to be crowned People’s Choice Taco.  The media judges were also busy trying all the selections to choose the Judges’ Choice Winner.  Maizal Restaurant topped both polls with their Ebi Chamois, a creative combination of Mexican and Japanese flavours.
