Picks of the Week – October 5, 2016

Turkey time is upon us, while we spend the Thanksgiving long weekend with or thinking of our friends and family, we’ll keep ourselves entertained with these picks of the week;

Films: The 35th Annual Vancouver International Film Festival continues to bring cinema from around the world to theatres around the city.

Improv: You never what you’re going to come out of the mouths of the Vancouver Theatresports League performers when you laugh along withTrump Card – Winner Takes All the latest VTSL show.

Duo: Everything is awesome when the Canadian wonder twins, Tegan and Sara take to the stage at Queen Elizabeth Theatre Wednesday night.

Aussie: Blueprint Live brings electronic duo from down under, Flight Facilities to The Vogue Theatre tonight

Stage: The Arts Club Theatre Company’s season gets underway with a farcical whodunit, Baskerville, at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage until October 9th and starting Thursday, The Flick takes to The Granville Island Stage until October 29th.

Pucks: The Vancouver Canucks‘ preseason continues when Calgary Flames come to town on Thursday night

HipHop: The Vogue Theatre welcomes rapper Danny Brown on Thursday night for an all-ages show.

Electo: Cali remixer, producer, DJ Seven Lions plays a set at the Commodore Ballroom on Thursday night.

Scares: Halloween fun comes early as Fright Nights at Playland gets underway on Friday.

Rock: Friday and Saturday night, local rock icons, 54-40 return to the Commodore Ballroom in support of La Difference – History Unplugged an acoustic reworking of their decades of hits.

Train: The Annual Stanley Park Halloween Ghost Train gets moving on Saturday night with a Day of the Dead theme for 2016

Session: Saturday, join in the Light Organ Records Railtown Sessions Volume 3 – featuring Johnny 99

Dance: Gogo to XY Saturday night ONYX this week featuring DJ Nick Bertossi and Vivi Milan

Dream: The duo Phantogram bring their dreamy, electo pop to the Commodore Ballroom on Sunday night.

Bears: Head to The Pint on Sunday night to give thanks to Ruff Vancouver with Gingerbear, Mike Sniffen and the Men of Ruff

Sunwave 2015 kicks off June 4

This Saturday, Sunwave 2016 kicks off with Open Air, the start to a season of great electronic music events.  Throughout the summer, the 3rd Annual Sunwave brings exciting electronic music, cold craft brews and good times for all.  Koerner’s Pub at UBC is the place to be, with one of the largest open air patios in Vancouver, spend your days soaking up the sun and fun.

It all begins this Saturday June 4, with OPEN AIR – featuring Jay Tripwire, MYTE, K.A.S.H, Tienn, Rob Caruk and Jackson.

Picks of the Week – March 18, 2015

While it feels like it’s been around for a while already, Spring officially starts this weekend let’s see what spring fun we find in the picks of the week:

Art: Thursday night, The Waldorf invites you to have an Art Attack; their interactive art show, every 1st & 3rd Thursday.

Stage: The Arts Club draws the curtain on the Review Stage as Sister Judy closed March 21st.

FabFour: Saturday at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre celebrate the music of The Beatles with two performances of Let It Be at 3:30 and 8pm.

Dance: The Tiki Bar presents the grand opening of their new event; Bailando Saturday, a night of hot latin dancing.
