Whitecaps FC debut 2013 primary kit

Just in time for the start of the new season, Whitecaps FC unveiled their new primary kit at an exclusive season ticket holder / media event on Wednesday night. A big crowd turned out to Vancouver’s Rocky Mountaineer Station to see the new home and training kit, modelled by players and fans, meet some of the players as well as take part in a question & answer period with President Bobby Lenarduzzi, Captain Jay Demerit and Coach Martin Rennie.  The new kit will be worn for the first time when the ‘Caps host Canadian arch rivals Toronto FC in the opening match of the 2013 season, Saturday March 2nd.

An evolution of the Whitecaps original MLS kit launched in June 2010, the new kit is inspired by the city of Vancouver, its breathtaking landscape, and the primary elements of the club’s brand, logo, and colours.

The jersey is glacier white with diagonal stripes in deep sea and sky blue. These diagonal stripes connect to a rounded sky blue and deep sea blue neckline representing the continuum from sea to sky. On the back collar of the jersey, highlighting the club’s 39 year history, is the tag “Since 1974”. In addition the “We Are Whitecaps” is emblazoned on the lower left side of the body. The jersey is complemented by the ‘Caps logo on the left chest, the Canadian flag proudly displayed on the left arm, and the MLS logo on the right arm. It has a sleeker silhouette, and features lightweight fabric, which team Captain Jay Demerit stated he enjoyed and made it easier to play in, which will hopefully enhance the on pitch play as well.

The jersey is available in both long and short sleeve versions and on sale now online at the whitecaps shop or see it for yourself at BC Place this weekend.

Whitecaps FC & MLS Announce 2012 Season Schedule

Whitecaps new season kicks off at BC Place, March 10, 2012

MLS soccer unveiled its 2012 schedule this week, with 323 matches spread over 267 days it is the longest MLS regular season in league history and promises to be action packed.  Aimed at reducing the heavy travel burden for the geographically largest league on the planet, local rivalries will heat up as teams within the same divisions play each other more often. Whitecaps FC will play the other Western Division clubs three times this season and each Eastern club only once. While this does reduce the clubs travel miles, which were the leagues highest in 2011, it means fans will have to wait a year to see some of the Eastern clubs who only host Whitecaps this season, like Chicago, Columbus and Toronto.
The Whitecaps kick off their first full season at BC Place on March 10th, by hosting their old USL nemesis, the Eastern Division expansion team, Montreal Impact, a match that is sure to be lively and fired up from the kick off.  Unlike last season, hopefully some of the league’s marquee designated players, like David Beckham and Thierry Henry will travel with their clubs when New York crosses the continent on June 20th and LA Galaxy visit, July 18th. Cascadia Cup rivals Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers’ fans will be able to build on their decades long rivalries as Vancouver hosts Seattle twice and Portland once this season. This means the Vancouver fans will be booking their charter bus to Portland twice and Seattle once. With the second to last home match against Seattle and the last versus Portland the Cascadia Cup won’t be decided until the end of the season.  Vancouver wraps up the regular season away to Real Salt Lake but hopefully this year, Whitecaps fans will be treated to some post-season excitement!

See you all at BC Place March 10th! Go ‘caps Go!

Whitecaps FC return to BC Place

Whitecaps FC v Portland Timbers – BC Place Stadium – October 2, 2011

Pre-game entertainment provided some of the few exciting moments in a lacklustre Whitecaps loss

When BC Place Stadium intially opened in 1983, Vancouver Whitecaps of the North American Soccer League played the first sporting event in the stadium, against North West rivals Seattle Sounders.  Following the Friday grand opening BC Lions game, Sunday afternoon saw the current MLS Whitecaps FC make their debut at the newly renovated BC Place Stadium.
Taking on their other North West rivals, Portland Timbers, the

Whitecaps "Southsiders" supporters enjoy seats right down to pitch level

Whitecaps put on a great opening show for the sell out crowd of 21,000 fans.  The normally cavernous stadiums upper bowl was hidden behind a row of cable suspended sails, creating an intimate setting for an afternoon of football.  The addition of soccer specific seating brought the fans closer to the action as additional seating brought the seats right down to pitch level on the west end and south sides of the stands.

Whitecaps take their historic debut kick-off at the new BC Place

The exciting pre-game show featured the usual drumming in of the players, anthem singing, flags and fireworks.  A contingent of junior players lined the field and kicked dozens of comemorative balls into the stands and boosted the fans in anticipation of the game ahead.  The pre-game also included 15 year old Branden Tomash scoring the ceremonial first goal on the Bell Pitch at BC Place.  Unfortunately, this was the only goal the local fans would celebrate as the Timbers beat the ‘Caps 1-nil.
