Transform: A Cabaret Festival – Virago Nationi

Fest: Transform: A Cabaret Festival continues, through this weekend, to take over the three stages of The Cultch with a multi-disciplinary festival of indigenous, local and international works

North: Take off and see the Great White North meets the Land of Fire and Ice as Flyover Canada welcomes Flyover Iceland to the cinematic adventure until October 20

BigTop: Cirque du Soleil brings their latest show, Luzia to the Big Top at Concorde Pacific Place, continuing through the end of the year

Pop: Friday night the Jonas Brothers : Happiness Begins Tour brings the trio, supported by Bebe Rexha and Jordan McGraw to Rogers Arena.

Suns: The Arts Club Theatre Company season begins with A Thousand Splendid Suns at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage, running until October 13th.

Bedrooms: The Arts Club Granville Island Stage opens The Birds & the Bees is a Canadian bedroom comedy about love, lust, beekeeping, and the artificial insemination of turkeys.

Stereotypes: Speakeasy Theatre’s production of the provocative work The Shipment by Young Jean Lee moves to Presentation House Theatre in North Vancouver until Oct 12th

Jazz: Friday Jazz is live at Tyrant Studios, this week featuring Nick Bracewell Trio.

Comedy: Saturday Comedy takes the stage at Tyrant Studios, this week’s stand-up finds Jacob Samuel and Chris Griffing supporting headliner Simon King

Improv: It’s your last chance to hit the books and laughs at The Improv Centre on Granville Island with Back to School Theatresports  closing October 12.

Rock: Local legends 54-40 make their annual visit to the Commodore Ballroom for two shows, Friday and Saturday night.

Icon: Sunday night, spend An Evening with John Fogerty: My 50 Year Trip, as the legendary musician revisits the sounds of 1969 – Woodstock and his Creedence Clearwater Revival songbook, at Rogers Arena

Raise a Beer at #DasOriginal Oktoberfest

With summer still in full swing, it’s hard to start thinking about autumn but it will be here before we know it. Why not have something to look forward to, besides grey, wet weather? 

Vancouver Alpen Club Oktoberfest tickets are on sale now.  If you can’t make it to Germany, you can celebrate with #DasOriginal Oktoberfest right here in Vancouver.

For over 30 years, Vancouver Alpen Club has been hosting the city’s #DasOriginal Oktoberfest celebration.  Festivities take over the club for three consecutive weekends in October, Friday, October 4th, and Saturday, October 5th, Friday, October 11th, and Saturday, October 12th, plus Friday, October 18th, and Saturday, October 19th, 2019. Live music from The Continentals will encourage guests to kick up their heels and take a spin on the dancefloor. Get inspiration for your footwork and spins from Vancouver’s very own Schuhplattler dance group the “Alpen Plattlers”. 

New this year, Vancouver Alpen Club has also created a lunch and a dinner event, on October 25, designed to give corporate groups, team gatherings and business partners the chance to experience a real Oktoberfest atmosphere, paired with great networking opportunities. Inquiries about special group rates and to order tickets for this October 25th event can be emailed to events@vacbc.ca. If October 25th doesn’t work, Vancouver Alpen Club will also entertain email requests for alternate dates for corporate/group Oktoberfest events.

Traditional Bavarian cuisine is loaded on plates while mugs are filled with German ale.  To bring centuries of brewing history to the kegs, Vancouver Alpen Club Oktoberfest cooperates with the German breweries Krombacher, Erdinger, and Hofbraeuhaus Muenchen.  Over the course of the three weekends of Oktoberfest, over 7000 litres of beer will be served to 400+ visitors each day.

Improv: The 19th Vancouver International Improv Festival takes over 4 venues on Granville Island for 5 days of improv comedy, Oct 11 – 14

Faceoff: Vancouver Canucks take the ice at Rogers Arena twice this week; Thursday vs Winnipeg and on Saturday vs Calgary.

CircusThe Goblin Market, a contemporary Kiwi circus troupe continues the action at The Cultch York Theatre until October 14th

Dance: October 12 – 14, The Dance Centre Global Dance Connections Series presents Compañia Sharon Fridman from Spain with two works Hasta Dónde…? + All Ways

Margaritas: Friday night, Rogers Arena becomes Margaritaville when Jimmy Buffett comes to town.

Hops to it at Harrison Beer Festival.

HarrisonOktoberfestThe third annual Harrison Beer Festival and Oktoberfest Dance happen in the hamlet of Harrison Hot Springs, on October 24 & 25, 2014.

Three events are spread across the two night fest; Cask Night on Friday and the Beer Festival and Dance on Saturday.

Cask Night sees six BC craft breweries; Old Yale Brewery, Dead Frog Brewery, Four Winds Brewing, Cannery Brewing Company, Red Truck Beer Company & Scandal Brewing Company putting their casks head to head in friendly competition.

The Beer Festival welcomes 23 breweries, each presenting 3-4 different beers, 70 beers in total, for sampling by the festival patrons.  That evening join in the fun at the traditional Oktobefest Dance, featuring Bavarian style beer on tap and the Oktoberfest Band will make sure you polka into the night.

Harrison Beer Festival Tickets are on sale online and start at just $18 for Cask Night or $60 for all three events. Food will be available at each event for $3.00 per item. Book one of Harrison Hot Springs‘ many hotels or inns to make it a weekend getaway
