XXII Olympic Winter Games via Twitter (infographic)

Sochi Olympics have come and gone and the Paralympics are underway.  Olympians have returned home or continued onto their World Cup season and the folks at MedaMiser took a look back over the whole Olympics to see what was trending. They reviewed over 4 million tweets to see who was the most popular athlete at the venues and overall. They also saw that timing of the athletes win made a difference between becoming a trending moment or a passing fancy.

Take a look at MediaMiser’s great infographic to see where your favourite Olympian ended up.

Behind the Scenes with Olympian’s Instagram & Twitter

With the ready access to Instagram and Twitter to interact with each other and their supporters, many Olympians are giving us a great account of what a day-in-the-life of an Olympian is like at Sochi 2014.

Here’s a few of our Canadian Olympians who are giving us some interesting behind the scenes access.

What’s your fave social network?

Now that Google Plus has been out for a bit, I’m starting to hear some more buzz and some people thinking it’s the best thing since sliced bread.
I’m still not convinced yet…but I haven’t really played around with it much.

If you’ve signed up, what’s your opinion of Google Plus?

Elevate Your Next Party – Make It A Theme Event

Brian Webb shows his 70's spirit

Recently, my friend Brian Webb and I co-hosted a summer party (even though the weather has been less than summery).  To add some extra fun to the event, Brian thought to make it a theme party…’Boogie Fever’, a retro event. Guests were recommended to get some boogie fever and dress in 70’s or 60’s attire, many were planning their costumes all week.
We took care of setting the

Finding my Boogie Fever

atmosphere by raiding Value Village and vintage shops for some great retro pieces. Curtains, fabrics, dishes and of course music turned Brian’s contemporary Yaletown condo into a 70’s basement rec room.  Of course, what would a party be without some food and drink, Brian searched out some traditional retro party food and cocktails to add to the mood.  We served devilled eggs, Ritz cracker & Cheez Whiz, cocktail sausages, gherkins, pickled onions, cheese and summer sausage,

Classic party nibbles set the tone

celery & Cheez Whiz and of course a jelly mould.  The classic drinks menu included Rum Fruit Punch, Tom Collins, Harvey Wallbanger and Greyhound Cocktails.
As we’d invited a number of people who didn’t know each other or hadn’t met in person before, Twitter being the common bond, the great costumes and music gave people an ice breaker to start the conversations.  Adding in a little Abba SingStar, as the evening progressed, capped the evening with some extra laughter and fun.
If you’re looking for a entertaining boost to your next party think about adding a theme and having some fun with the decorations and costumes!

Tweet-up at Beachside Forno

Another night, another tweet up!

This time it took us out of town…all the way across the Lions Gate Bridge to West Vancouver! Beachside Forno (@beachside_forno) is in the heart of the Ambleside neighbourhood, easily located on Marine Drive so my friend, Brian (@br_webb) and I decided to take Transit.  This was our first visit but the restaurant is instantly warm & inviting and although it was dark we could tell that there would be a great view from the back patio, overlooking the water and Stanley Park beyond.

The Beachside crew has tasting bites of their great pizzas for the guests to sample…with ‘Forno’ in your name your pizzas better be good and these lived up to the name. Crispy, simple and very tasty! Skyy Vodka & Granville Island Brewery kindly donated some of their product so the minimal charge for drinks was donated to support Movember for Prostate Cancer awareness.  I’d also ordered a ‘Beachside chicken burger’ which was very nicely topped with pesto, portobello mushrooms and provolone, accompanied by a very nice salad of mixed greens. All the food from the menu looked excellent.

Organizer Jennifer Kemshaw (@jkemshaw) did a great job of getting the word out to a variety of Tweeps and Facebookers to come down, get a taste of the Beachside Forno experience and meet each other. Besides meeting Jennifer for the first time, I got to meet @604homesguy @AliciaHollywood @rezg23 @HeadtotheNet @brandanprice and reconnect with @jessebowness @Lev_ivy again. We all look forward to catching up again at the next tweetup. Perhaps another at Beachside Forno?
