Last night, Tasting Plates Kitsilano West took us on a food adventure around the West Side. Established neighbourhood faves on West 4th and some food finds on West Broadway welcomed tasting platers.
Check-in was at the 3 month old, Essentia Café at 3498 W Broadway. Bringing Vancouver a modern European coffee experience, Essentia Cafe served a pair of Tasting Cups;
Freddo Cappuccino – an iced cappuccino with a double shot topped with a thick layer of ice cold whipped milk.
Con Pana – a single shot topped with whipped cream
Plus the Essentia Tasting Plate included Pumpkin Cheesecake and Mango Shortcake
At the bright and cheery, The Juicery Co Kits, at 3570 W 4th Avenue a cleansing trio of juice shots; Local Rose Juice – grapefruit, apple, burdock, rosemary. The Original – apple, lemon, ginger, kale, cucumber, parsley, celery. Dads Juice – beet, carrot, apple, kale, ginger, turmeric. Their mini Tasting Bowl of frozen Acai blended with cocoa, maca, housemade nut milk and frozen banana with Two Daughters granola.
Along the street, the popular neighbourhood local, Darby’s Public House, at 2001 Macdonald Street, treated Tasting Platers to their usual elevated pub grub. Mini Broadway Burger topped with guacamole, roasted red peppers, house cured bacon, lettuce and tomato. Sour Glazed, Smoked Chicken Drumette – served with Sesame Seed Asian Slaw. A light and satisfying Quinoa Salad – roasted beets, grape tomatoes, cucumber, green onion and IPA dressing.
Tera V Burger at 2961 West Broadway provided a vegetarian and healthy alternative to comfort food faves, burger and fries with a shake.
The No Bull Burger – a vegan burger topped with lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard.
BBQ Tempeh Burger – organic fermented soy bean tempeh patty topped with bbq sauce, lettuce, tomato, red onion, cheddar
A side of Baked French Fries and a Super Food Smoothie rounded off the Tasting Plate
At Bon Macaron Patisserie, 2823 West Broadway just down the street, Tasting Plates wrapped up with a sweet and savoury trio of their house made macarons. Bright and colourful, chewy and flavourful Bon Macaron offers a huge selection of flavours. We tried Chili Chocolate, Lemon-Blueberry, Matcha, White Chocolate, Pistachio, Beet Root.
