Last night, Vancouver Foodster’s Tasting Plates made its annual trek across Burrard Inlet to explore the flavours of North Vancouver.
Gathering at Pier 7 Restaurant the tasting platers were treated to a trio of fresh tastes from the sea, Oyster Shooter, Salmon Tataki & Tuna Tartar, served with a stunning side of sunset before heading off, Tasting Plates Card in hand to the next location.
Just across Shipyard Square, the chefs at The Lobby Restaurant at Pinnacle at the Pier Hotel prepared a plate of Togarashi Seared Ahi Tuna Tataki, served on a bed of cucumber, edamame, beet, carrot, arugula and spinach, alongside a Jicama Fish Taco, pan seared cod, pickled fennel slaw in a thinly sliced “shell” of Jicama. A Tasting Cup of light, white sangria quenched the thirst.
Two Daughters Bakery, may be hidden away in a back lane but there’s no hiding the flavours from their gluten-free and vegan baked goods; a savory stuffed bread bite and organic blueberry, raspberry tart.
Lonsdale Quay Public Market stayed open later than usual for Tasting Plate patrons to visit the next three locations.
The recently opened, Bowen Island Pizza Company highlighted their pizzas and deli offerings with a slice of Pear & Brie topped thin crust pizza with slices of Two Rivers Meats, cheese and olives.
What goes better with pizza than beer, luckily Green Leaf Brewing Co. was next with a choice of beers, I opted for a refreshing, light Wisenhower Hefeweizen.
Wrapping up the night on a sweet flavour, Frux Frozen Yogurt gave us our froyo fix with their unique flavours of chocolate almond, kale, strawberry frozen yoghurts.
If this all looks and sounds tasty, why don’t you get in on the act and join the next Tasting Plates adventure on Commercial Drive, August 12th?
