Vancouver’s newest neighbourhood, Olympic Village is also one of the fastest expanding. As new residents move in, new dining establishments follow. Last evening, Tasting Plates brought hungry tasters to find the flavours of the district.
Starting at Milano Coffee Roasters on 8th Ave, participants checked in and collected their Tasting Plates cards and kick started the evening with a shot of Lucky 13 Espresso and Espresso Velvet Affogato. After our tasting cups we set out on our venture around the ‘hood.
Next up was de Dutch Pannekoek House on West 2nd. Proving that pannekoeken are not just for breakfast, diners were welcomed by a selection of savoury and sweet pannekoeken with fillings and toppings like smoked salmon & edam, bacon hash, mushrooms & edam, cinnamon apple or fresh fruit.
In the heart of the Village, Aqua Sushi & Juice Bar served up a fresh and healthy sushi plate of gluten-free Veggie Roll, Kale Goma ae, and my choice of a wild Salmon and Avocado Quinoa Cone. On the side a refreshing tasting cup of their “Hydrate” fresh pressed Watermelon, Lime and Mint Juice.
Around the corner, Rouge Bistro presented a savoury trio of flavourful Curry Chicken with Seaweed, Cucumber and shredded Chicken Salad with a cup of earthy Mushroom Soup. Many of us commented what a perfect lunch this tasting plate would make.
Wrapping up our visit to Olympic Village, we visited Big Rock Urban Eatery where were were treated to live music and a three course taste of Juniper Soaked Watermelon Cubes with Blackened Albacore Tuna over Greens, Hop Salted Steak Frites with Gogonzola Cream and a Mini S’mores with Chocolate Stout Gelato, Housemade Bourbon Vanilla Marshmallow and Rauchbier Ganache. A tasting cup of Big Rock Hefeweizen rounded out Tasting Plates Olympic Village.
If this looked and sounded good, check out the next Vancouver Foodster Tasting Plate event. Tasting Plates North Vancouver on July 22nd.
