Thursday night, Todrick Hall kicked off his new Straight Outta Oz Tour in Vancouver. The YouTube star, American Idol alum and Broadway performer debuted the Straight Outta Oz tour to coincide with his recently released visual album of the same name.
A diverse audience gathered at The Vogue Theatre, to witness Todrick Hall and his large cast of singers and dancers’ musical theatrics. Straight Outta Oz is a sweet and sassy, sometimes political, semi-autobiographical “twister” on the beloved Wizard Of Oz. A tale of a southern boy who feels out of place and seeks adventure and new horizons in the wonderful world of “Oz Angeles”. The two dozen original songs weave the tale as Todrick replaces Dorothy on his journey down the yellow brick road, meeting the Wizard, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Lion and more.
While Todrick Hall is the star, he shares the stage with his supporting cast, giving many of them a chance to shine, especially Teresa Stanley’s emotional performance as Brenda (Mother) and “The Divas” Vonzell Solomon, Virginia Cavaliere and Judith Franklin. The show did experience some opening night technical glitches, but that didn’t take away from the show’s enjoyment. Once the Straight Outta Oz cast took their bows, an encore filled with highlights from Todricks other YouTube productions continued the fun filled evening, finally wrapping up after two hours on stage.
As expected of a social media star, Hall encouraged the audience to take photos and videos and post them with the #StraightOuttaOz hashtag, so you everyone can follow the progress of the tour on social.
The #StraightOuttaOz tour continues around North America until mid-August. Find tickets and tour dates on todrickhall, com
