Tuesday night, the 2015 Unique Lives Vancouver, lecture series wrapped up with the incomparable Shirley MacLaine at the Orpheum Theatre.
Beginning with a photo and video retrospective that covered Ms MacLaine’s life and career. The 55 minute overview went by in the blink of an eye showing just how much the star has accomplished in her 80+ years. Told in her own words, through personal and media photos of family and friends, her personal and professional relationships, travels and spiritual journeys are explored. Film clips from her first appearance in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Trouble With Harry to her most recent tv work in Downton Abbey and Glee showed a who’s who of costars and directors over a 60 year Hollywood career.
Following the retrospective, Ms MacLaine took the stage in person and was joined by host Jill Krop of Global BC to take another hour of questions. The Unique Lives audience is welcomed to submit their own question cards to be read onstage or step up the mic to ask in person. Questions ranged from the surreal to spiritual and supernatural to political but the overall theme was of respect and gratitude for the entertainer making an appearance in Vancouver.
For those who wanted more, they were advised to visit shirleymaclaine.com to look into 5 day spiritual and self-discovery retreats held at her New Mexico ranch. From the sounds of those nearby there will be some locals making the journey to the dessert.
Watch for next year’s Unique Lives for more inspiring, entertaining and enlightening appearances from more great personalities.
