This weekend, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) played the second edition of the Harry Potter Film Series; Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets live. A full house at the Orpheum Theatre was filled with fans of the Potterverse.
Plenty of little wizards in robes roamed tried hard to contain their excitement as prepared to watch the second movie of the series, with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra lead by guest conductor Justin Freer perform the film’s score live. Perfectly in sync with the film, the live orchestra gave more depth to the film score and filled the auditorium with the familiar notes. As the film progressed, the orchestra members faded into the background as the action took the fore and the music meshed perfectly.
VSO’s Harry Potter Live Film Series continues with the third film in the cinematic phenomenon, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, July 13, 14 & 15, 2017. Tickets go on sale for part three April 19th.
The cinema also comes to the Orpheum May 10 and 11 when VSO at the Movies celebrates the 35th Anniversary of E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. Conductor Constantine Kitsopoulos leads the orchestra through John Williams classic sci-fi score.
