The Whitecaps FC third MLS season gets underway on Saturday March 2, 2013 at BC Place as Vancouver kicks off against rivals Toronto FC, the first match in a 34 game regular season schedule.
Whitecaps FC will play each of their fellow MLS Western Conference opponents three times and play Eastern Conference opponents once each. Four Western Conference clubs will visit Vancouver twice – Cascadia Cup rivals Portland Timbers (May 18, Oct 6), defending MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy (May 11, Aug 24), as well as Chivas USA (Jun 19, Sep 1) and Real Salt Lake (Apr 13, Sep 28). In addition to hosting Toronto for the season opener, the ‘Caps will host four other Eastern Conference clubs; Columbus Crew (Mar 9), New England Revolution (Jun 15), Chicago Fire (Jul 14), and Philadelphia Union (Jul 27) at BC Place.
Other highlights of the 2013 season include the 3 meetings with Cascadia Cup challengers, Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers plus a visit to NASL’s FC Edmonton on April 24 and hosting them on May 1 as part of the Amway Canadian Championship. Should they prevail over FC Edmonton the ACC Finals are played May 15 and 29 against the winner of the Toronto v Montreal semi-final.
The 2013 regular season wraps up October 27, 2013, followed by the top ten clubs moving on to the 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs. Hopefully, we’ll see Whitecaps FC make the post season for a second straight year and advance even further in 2013!
