Just in time for the start of the new season, Whitecaps FC unveiled their new primary kit at an exclusive season ticket holder / media event on Wednesday night. A big crowd turned out to Vancouver’s Rocky Mountaineer Station to see the new home and training kit, modelled by players and fans, meet some of the players as well as take part in a question & answer period with President Bobby Lenarduzzi, Captain Jay Demerit and Coach Martin Rennie. The new kit will be worn for the first time when the ‘Caps host Canadian arch rivals Toronto FC in the opening match of the 2013 season, Saturday March 2nd.
An evolution of the Whitecaps original MLS kit launched in June 2010, the new kit is inspired by the city of Vancouver, its breathtaking landscape, and the primary elements of the club’s brand, logo, and colours.
The jersey is glacier white with diagonal stripes in deep sea and sky blue. These diagonal stripes connect to a rounded sky blue and deep sea blue neckline representing the continuum from sea to sky. On the back collar of the jersey, highlighting the club’s 39 year history, is the tag “Since 1974”. In addition the “We Are Whitecaps” is emblazoned on the lower left side of the body. The jersey is complemented by the ‘Caps logo on the left chest, the Canadian flag proudly displayed on the left arm, and the MLS logo on the right arm. It has a sleeker silhouette, and features lightweight fabric, which team Captain Jay Demerit stated he enjoyed and made it easier to play in, which will hopefully enhance the on pitch play as well.
The jersey is available in both long and short sleeve versions and on sale now online at the whitecaps shop or see it for yourself at BC Place this weekend.
