Summer may be coming to a close but there still lots of fun and entertaining activities happening. One interesting and unique festival, that I just learned about, is coming up in Vancouver this weekend, the 5th Annual Accordion Noir Festival takes place September 13 – 16, 2012. Celebrating one of the “world’s most misunderstood instruments” the Accordion Festival kicks off Thursday with ‘The Big Squeeze’ at the Cobalt on Main Street. The festival brings together international stars of the ‘squeeze box’, like Guro von Germeien from Norway and San Francisco’s Renee de la Prade, performing alongside Vancouver’s favorite folk noir, gypsy, Roma and swing musicians. Throughout the festival there also be Accordion “grudge match” competitions, workshops and more. Tickets to individual events are available at the venue door, local outlets, and online with Eventbrite.
