Co.ERASGA Dance continues to fortify its vision and legacy as it presents the return of Passages of Rhythms at PAL Studio Theatre May 19 & 20.
In this remounted work, acclaimed dancer and choreographer Alvin Erasga Tolentino takes centre stage; merging three duets created for three diverse artists and showcasing three different genres – Flamenco, Bharatanatyam, and voices for the body – Passages of Rhythms is a hybrid full-length evening of cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural collaboration celebrating Asian Heritage Month in May 2022.
A fusion of traditional and contemporary movements, Passages of Rhythms is hybrid- a cross-pollination of cultures enabling the body to move and transform through complex rhythms, sensation, shapes, and voices
Co.ERASGA Dance Society is a Vancouver dance company that supports and contributes to the development and enhancement of contemporary dance at home and globally, while seeking new and challenging projects that provide opportunities and cross-cultural issues in today’s society. To celebrate Co ERASGA’s 22nd Season, Alvin Erasga Tolentino gathers some of Canada’s most exceptional and diverse artists to join him on stage. This internationally acclaimed choreographer is excited to collaborate once again with Vancouver’s Chinese-Canadian Flamenco artist Kasandra “La China”, Indo-Canadian Bharatanatyam dancer Sujit Vaidya, and Montreal voice artist phenomena Gabriel Dharmoo.
Passages of Rhythms awakens, provokes and celebrates the contemporary body and interconnections with cultural rhythms and sounds. A pan-Asian gathering of inter-generational dynamic artists, in both the music and dance genres, the cast delivers a surprising, mastered and evocative performance that audiences will soon get to experience live at the PAL Studio Theatre.
