Early Music Vancouver (EMV) has announced its fall programming, between now and December. Expect a second announcement later in the season with details on what’s to come from January to June 2022.
The season includes four in-person concerts which will also be available to watch online – via ticketed livestream or recorded for viewing by donation. The EMV Digital Concert Hall reopens October 6th to stream four previously recorded during the 2021 Vancouver Bach Festival.
A collaboration with West Vancouver’s Kay Meek Arts Centre kicks off the season. Mandinka Pilgrimage features our excellent collaborator Kiya Tabassian and Ensemble Constantinople in concert with the West African singer and kora player Ablaye Cissoko. Tickets for the September 24th concert are on sale now.
On October 20th, fortepianist Andreas Staier has been invited to inaugurate EMVs new piano, a copy of a Graf 1819 piano built by the master instrument maker Paul McNulty flown to Vancouver from the Czech Republic a few days before the Bach Festival. The program of Mozart, Haydn and Schubert takes place at Christ Church Cathedral.
On December 3rd, at Pacific Spirit Church, comes the second concert of EMV’s Passports Series, Clair-Obscur: Corscian Polyphony. The all-male vocal ensemble A Filetta with be joined by the core group of musicians from Constantinople. Corsican singing uses close harmonies and haunting melodies to create a unique sound world.
A Christmas tradition at EMV, Festive Cantatas take the stage December 16th, at the Chan Centre. Listen to Cantatas IV and V from Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, as well as a beautiful Christmas work by Kuhnau. The Canadian soloists baritone Tyler Duncan and tenor Colin Balzer will be joined by the Pacific Baroque Orchestra under the inspiring leadership of Alexander Weimann.
The EMV Digital Concert Hall fills in the season with the following free (donations welcome) online performances:
October 6 – Chaconne: In memory of Jeanne Lamon
October 13 – Pilgrimage to Bach: Cantata BWV 82
November 10 – Lab’rinths: Purcell & His Contemporaries
