Haim – Commodore Ballroom – October 24, 2013
The much-buzzed about Haim performed at Commodore Ballroom before a very excited audience. The California based quartet; sisters Este, Danielle and Alana Haim along with drummer Dash Hutton had the crowd ready to rock and indeed they delivered.
While they’re only on their first album, the group have been performing since they were children, demonstrating their near decade of experience. Danielle had visited Vancouver once before, performing on tour with Julian Casablancas, but the others were on their first trip to Canada and with this being the conclusion to their first headlining tour in support of their debut album Days Are Gone, they made the most of the occasion to have a ‘raging good time’. With the hype and accolades that the band has received, MTV’s “Brand New for 2013” nominee& BBC’s “Sound of 2013” winner, there was a wide demographic to the audience who all should have found something appealing in the Haim sound. Their influences can be heard throughout their set as their tracks range from hard rocking numbers, simple harmonic tracks and R&B influenced pop tunes. The band’s longevity is still to be decided and may depend as much on the sisterly dynamic as on their ability to grow musically. In the meantime, these sister’s (and Dash) are indeed a force to be listened to and a band to know.
