Presentation House Theatre is bringing a fresh version of Where the Wild Things Are, to the stage this month for a limited run, October 24 & 25. In a testament to how wildly popular the show is, and the audience’s desire for live performances, the first two shows have sold out. Due to the popular demand, two more have been added at 1:00pm October 24 and 4:00pm October 25.
“It’s important to us that young children can use their imaginations in an immersive way, particularly when they are being told to stay away from each other,” says PHT Artistic Director, Kim Selody. “Rather than move the show to a video or live stream format, we chose to limit audience numbers in a live performance, so that the kids can still experience the power of play and being immersed in a story.”
Imaginatively adapted to suit COVID-19 compliance, this production will safely bring pure wonder and wow to everyone in the family. The cast and creative team have adapted interactive aspects of the original production to allow young audiences to participate, in a safe and social distanced way. Audiences can expect pocket performances with limited attendance, physically distanced seating with space between family bubbles, and “unlimited fun and excitement”.
“They’re are not able to play together, work together and share things in the same way as before,” adds Selody, “but they can still use their imaginations to become wild things, and help us tell the story while keeping safe.”
“This pandemic can potentially rob a child of the full experience of using their imagination,” says Selody. “We feel it’s important and vital to offer this opportunity, particularly during a time when activities are being restricted for the good of the whole community. By reducing the numbers, and making participation safe for all, we can help to unleash a child’s imagination.”
