At this time of year, some of us remember a uniquely West Coast yuletide tradition – Yulin’ with the Page – the Sports Page year-end wrap up episodes. Even if you weren’t a sports fan, the episodes were well worth watching.
To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the beloved show, Sports Page – The Exhibit is now open at the BC Sports Hall Of Fame. The Hall of Fame has devoted 950 sq feet to memories of the half hour show that ran from 1977 to 2005 on the local CKVU (1977-2001) and CHEK (2001-2005) stations. In the days prior to all-sports tv and radio, devoting an entire 30 minute show to sports, allowed Sports Page to cover much more local sports that traditional TV news hour sports coverage, giving insight into BC Lions, Canucks, Grizzlies, Canadians, 86ers/Whitecaps, Lacrosse, Inline Hockey, as well as University and High School sports.
The exhibit also highlights the many hosts to grace the Sports Page screens over the years, many of whom have become sports broadcasting legends including; Don Taylor, Barry Houlihan, Jay Durant, Shane Foxman, Blake Price, Scott Rintoul, Barry MacDonald, John Shorthouse, Squire Barnes and Hall of Fame inductee the late Paul Carson.
Sports Page : The Exhibit is included with admission to the BC Sports Hall of Fame, located at BC Place, Gate A, open daily 10am – 5pm.
