Theatre Replacement, one of Vancouver’s most innovative experimental companies, is putting its Best Life on stage. Burnaby’s Shadbolt Centre for the Arts welcomes audiences to the World Premiere of Best Life November 2-5 at the Studio Theatre.
The new work, Best Life is an immersive and relational work performed by an audience, for an audience. Created by: T/R’s Artistic Director, Maiko Yamamoto, in collaboration with Antoine Bedard, Arthi Chandra, Itai Erdal and Keely O’Brien, Best Life is inspired by the machines that make our lives better.
What if these domestic machines could whisper the stories they are caring for to us? In Best Life, they are the audience’s companions — everyday ‘R2D2s’ that teach how to perform the show together. Scenes emerge that tell the story of a suburban neighbourhood over a span of 50 years; an origami of everyday objects, building a shared narrative of longing in this moment.
An intimate and participatory audience experience that will simultaneously take you back into the past as well as forward into the far, far future, Best Life also asks a much bigger question, “what it is we are leaving behind”?
Best Life was developed through LIFT’s Concept Touring Digital Residency, the Deer Lake Artist’s Residency, and through the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts. Audience participation is part of the Best Life experience, find more information at theatrereplacement.org. Tickets are limited, book soon at tickets.shadboltcentre.com.
