DanceHouse Vancouver & The Cultch bring their annual collaboration of contemporary circus, Paradisum from Hungary’s Recirquel to Vancouver Playhouse, until January 24.

A breathtaking display of strength, agility and grace, intertwined with contemporary dance, Paradisum moves swiftly between the acrobatic acts making beautifully creative use of modern circus apparatus; aerial pole, hoop, and straps, as well as hand-balance canes, a ladder and even juggling. Many of the apparatus acts are focused on a single performer, highlighting their skill and strength. The staging with its flowing backdrop appearing like a living entity delivering performers from within its folds. Then as they wrap their act enveloping them like a sea to replenish their energies.
With simple, supple movements across the floor to electrifying thrills from high above that elicited spontaneous gasps, applause and amazement – the company’s six skilled performers Ádám Fehér, Yevhen Havrylenko, Kateryna Larina, Ivett Igna?cz, Andrii Maslov deserve all the accolades to be paid to this production, choreographed by the acclaimed Bence Vági.

Packing so much excitement and wonder into its hour runtime, Recirquel’s Paradisum is a show better seen than described. See it for 4 more performances until Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Vancouver Playhouse, 600 Hamilton Street.
Following these Vancouver performances, co-presented by DanceHouse and The Cultch; Recirquel takes Paradisum across Canada to the other presenting partners; La Diamant in Quebec, Tohu in Montreal, and To Live in Toronto giving the country the opportunity to see this work.
