Staycations are a great way to add some variety to your life without a great expense. Faced with a rather uneventful New Year’s Eve we took the opportunity to check into the Sheraton Vancouver Airport in Richmond. The recently renovated former Richmond Inn, has been nicely updated but maintains the spacious rooms that an older building offers. While the 390 room property is still a favourite of the team and group business it’s large and quiet enough to not notice groups around the common areas.
Westminster Highway is a busy thoroughfare but even with windows facing the street, we didn’t hear any road noise from our 4th floor room. For even more quiet ask for a low-rise room facing the inner courtyard swimming pool/hot tub. It was freezing outside but the heated pool still saw activity from some braving their New Year’s Day polar bear swim. A surprisingly spacious and well equiped fitness centre was at the ready for those wishing to stick to their New Year’s resolutions.
Harold’s Bistro located in the centre of the property is a good restaurant to satisfy your breakfast, lunch, dinner needs or late night drinks in the lounge. Our New Year’s brunch buffet certainly satisfied the morning-after sustenance. Starbucks, in the lobby fulfilled our coffee and tea requirements too.
If you’re looking for other dining options, the adjacent hotels feature good restaurants and a host of restaurants are also within walking distance. Richmond Centre offers shopping and eating just another block away. Richmond’s Asian influenced Golden Village is nearby as well to give your staycation a cultural change of pace.
