Michelle Riml‘s hilarious comedy, Sexy Laundry is playing at the Arts Club Granville Island Stage until May 12. Twenty years after it premiered during the Arts Club Theatre Company’s 40th season, the now globally acclaimed show returns for the 60th season.
From the first to last moment, the 90 minute one-act play is a tour de force for its two brilliant performers. Directed by Diane Donnelly, Lossen Chambers plays Alice and Cavan Cunningham plays Henry, a couple who have checked into an Instagram-worthy hotel (beautifully created by Set Designer Amir Ofek) with a goal to revive their mundane 25-year marriage and sex life. Guided by their copy of Sex For Dummies the couple try a number of challenges to rev up their libidos. While Alice and Henry try to open up to each other, they end up tearing open old and new wounds. Alice longs for the vibrant lives they lived at the start of their 25 years together, while Henry welcomes the comfort that their time together has established.
Sexy Laundry clearly showing how easy a lack of communication, miscommunication and jumping to conclusions can lead to chasms in a relationships. The pitfalls and pratfalls of their hotel night takes them and the audience on a hilarious and touching journey. What one person intends as affection can easily be misinterpreted and twisted around by the other’s insecurities. As the duo try to learn about each other, they end up finding themselves. They are so comfortable with each other, themselves and the words that the audience has the privilege to see these two talented actors make Michelle Riml’s script feel totally natural.
Sexy Laundry blooms with the feel good love and laughter that’s perfect for the season of renewal, it’s this Spring’s must see! Playing at the Arts Club Granville Island Stage until May 12, 2024, find show details and tickets for Sexy Laundry online at artsclub.com
