Vancouver Men’s Fashion Week 2013 kicks off in just one week’s time at the The Executive Hotel Le Soleil with sneak peak of this year’s designers for media and buyers. Founder and Creative Director of Men’s Fashion Week, Jun Ramos, says “Our aim is to put a spotlight on established and emerging Canadian menswear designers and be the bridge for international designers to break into the Canadian market.”
This year Men’s Fashion Week is shining a spotlight on three emerging designers; Danielle Holyk, Courtney Billinkoff and Jessica Lim. Each of the designers have created men’s lines that feature activewear for the high tech world. Cutting edge fabrics, clean lines, sleek finishes and pockets for all your electronics seems to be the trend amongst this year’s featured designers. All three lines will appeal to the young, urban, modern man who looks clothing tailors to suit his entire day, from work to play.
Holyk’s “CNNCTD” line features stylishly, tailored outerwear and sleek cut trousers and shirts. Constructed with premium cottons and wools the garments have Electromagnetic Radiation Shielding (EMR) fabric as a base layer to protect the body but allow gadgets to function.
Billinkoff’s “ardour” targets cyclists with garments meant to counter the highly branded, polyester cycling attire, with stylish, functional clothing. With cycling growing as a sport and mode of urban transportation, men new to the sport were looking for a clothing option that didn’t leave them feeling ‘on display’.
Lim’s “Velocity” reflects her experience in technical design at Sugoi and costume design. Another designer noticing a gap in a specific market, this time Kart Racing. The line combines fashion and technical elements with affordability to an under-served market bringing a stylish aesthetic and remembering the need for safety functional apparel.
Meet the designers the meet and greet on August 8th then watch the runway on August 10th at The Woodwards Atrium.
