Sunday night in London the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), presented their honourees for the best in national and international films with the BAFTA Awards. Seen as the British equivalent of the Oscars, it’s often a precursor of how the Academy Awards will play out in a few weeks.
The British-American film, Gravity was the most nominated movie going into the evening and succeeded in winning the most hardware but was edged out of the Best Film nod by 12 Years A Slave which also earned Chiwetel Ejiofor, Best Actor.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Barkhad Abdi as Abduwali Muse in Captain Phillips
Best Actress in a Supporting Role – Jennifer Lawrence as Rosalyn Rosenfeld in American Hustle

Best Original Screenplay – Eric Warren Singer & David O. Russell for American Hustle
Best Adapted Screenplay – Steve Coogan & Jeff Pope for Philomena
Best Film Not in the English Language – The Great Beauty
Best Animated Film – Frozen
Best Short Film – Room 8
Outstanding British Film – Gravity
Best Documentary – The Act of Killing
Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer – Kieran Evans (Director/Writer) for Kelly + Victor
