The 2026/2027 Anvil Theatre Presents series gets underway with, Bury the Hatchet, a genre bending hit play from the UK. Director Vicky Moran leads the multi-award-winning theatrical production, from the ensemble Out of the Forest Theatre, re-examines the infamous 1892 Lizzie Borden murder case. Written by Sasha Wilson, the blending dark gallows-humour, vaudevillian horror, and courtroom drama with a live soundtrack of bluegrass music and traditional murder ballads.
In August 1892, Andrew Borden and his wife Abby are found dead in Fall River, Massachusetts. Their daughter Lizzie is the main suspect. She is tried and acquitted of the crime, but in the court of public opinion rumour spreads that she wielded the axe that killed them. Overnight, Lizzie becomes America’s original “mad, bad and dangerous to know” icon.
