Digidance and partner DanceHouse are presenting the Canadian premiere of More Than Dance, We Are A Movement. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Canada’s award-winning Indigenous innovators, Red Sky Performance, the film will stream in Canada only from April 14-20, 2021.
Recognized nationally and internationally as one of Canada’s most prolific and acclaimed creators of contemporary Indigenous works, Red Sky Performance is lauded for its impactful, interdisciplinary works informed by an Indigenous worldview. Red Sky Performance moves beyond dance to elicit meaningful change surrounding the narrative of Indigenous arts and culture.
This feature-length film offers audiences access to this dynamic and visionary artistic company. The film includes interviews with Founder and Executive and Artistic Director Sandra Laronde (Misko Kizhigoo Migizii Kwe which means “Red Sky Eagle Woman” in the Anishinaabemowin (Ojibway) language) from the Teme-Augama Anishinaabe (People of the Deep Water) and her company of collaborators, and offers an intimate and insightful look into the company’s singular artistic vision—creating contemporary works rooted in Indigenous storytelling traditions.
The premiere features excerpts from two award-winning creations: Trace, a highly kinetic contemporary dance work inspired by Anishinaabe sky and star stories, and Miigis, which represents the “the perfect breath” of life, a symbol that informs origin stories of travel from the Atlantic Coast to the Great Lakes.

With their 20th anniversary celebratory tour across Canada and the U.S. on hold due to COVID-19 restrictions, Red Sky Performance hopes to interact live on stage with audiences as they visit 22 cities, including Vancouver, in late 2021 and early 2022.
