Festival of Israeli Culture invites you to its Outdoor Sunday on May 15, 2022 (11 am – 6 pm), at the Jewish Community Centre parking lot. As spring bursts forth all around us, residents of Greater Vancouver will gain a unique insight into the thriving multi-ethnic nature of Israeli culture with a one-day celebration of music, dance, art, and—of course—food!
Headlining Outdoor Sunday, Vancouver’s (by way of Texas) Sam Rocha Trio brings an exotic gumbo of folk, roots, and R&B music, to capture the eclectic essence of the Festival’s theme for 2022 – “Cultural Crossroads”. Other featured performers includes the sultry jazz of rising star vocalist Andrea Superstein and Perry Erlich’s energetic show choir troupe, ShowStoppers.
The Choir in Hebrew and a slate of Israeli dance groups promise yet more entertainment under the sun—among them a Moroccan-influenced performance by Orr Atid—while visitors browsing Outdoor Sunday’s Art Fair might encounter the work of local craftspeople like Art of Pottery’s Magdalena and Marcin Zmudzinski or the handcrafted soaps and candles of Infinity By Ray. Artist Maxine Woodman and Beautitionary (natural and vegan skincare) also join a growing list of vendors offering everything from handmade jewellery to home decor and fashion.
It wouldn’t be a cultural celebration without food…Outdoor Sunday delivers with a feast of authentic Falafel, Hummus and Baba Ghanoush as well as a wide variety of flavours from local food trucks and restaurants. With indoor and outdoor kids activities like mini-golf, a scavenger hunt, and a Muppets performance, plus activities for Hebrew speakers including a film screening and lecture by former journalist Yaron Deckel, Outdoor Sunday will be a highlight in Vancouver’s spring cultural calendar.
Outdoor Sunday and the annual Festival of Israeli Culture are presented by the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver, located at 950 W. 41st Avenue. All events are free of charge but food donations to the Jewish Food Bank are encouraged.
