IDS Vancouver Builds Excitement

International Design Show (IDS) Vancouver opens for the public this weekend September 30 and October 1 at Vancouver Convention Centre.
There are many home shows filled with things to build your house but IDS Vancouver is filled with all the items that makes a house a home. Design trends, decor, accessories, furnishings and more touches that add your personality to your four walls.

Here’s five top things to make sure you check out at this year’s IDS Vancouver

THE TREE HOUSE
Living at the entrance of IDS Vancouver is the 100ft, majestic Tree House, designed by Electric Coffin and presented by LightArt, an exploration of manmade material and natural form becoming one. The exhibit lets visitors wander through the front door of a house made from 3Form material and along a lit path which transforms the piece into an organic, tree-like shape made from cardboard. The passage serves as a portal to explore and contemplate: a metaphysical object propositioning the viewer.

WALALAND
In collaboration with Portland-based ANN SACKS, Camille Walala will transform the Central Bar feature into Walaland – a joyful place filled with Camille’s signature tribal-pop prints, high-octane colour combinations, and eye-popping graphics. Incorporating ceramic tiles by ANN SACKS, Camille has hand painted a 60-ft mural that serves as the backdrop for the bar. The young designer also takes the stage on Saturday, September 30 to speak about her design.

TOKYO EXCHANGE
The fourth installment of The Exchange at IDS Vancouver will bring you to Tokyo! An enigmatic city, Tokyo’s design scene is a mixture of ancient and modern, liberal, and conservative, east and west influences. Curated by Design Milk, the Tokyo Exchange brings together works by innovative Tokyo-based design studios – we+ and Design for Industry. The installation is designed by Vancouver-based FSOARK Architect Inc.

THE MIX
The Mix is an all new program at IDS Vancouver this year that includes a host of breathtaking displays, installations and talks that are conducted both onsite and off. Supported by the Consulate to the Netherlands and media partner FRAME Magazine, three leading Netherlands-based designers have been paired with celebrated, established Vancouver creators. The pairs exhibit side by side on centre aisle at IDS Vancouver and take part in offsite conversations hosted by FRAME Minds at the Vancouver-based designers’ and artists’ studios.

THE DISTRICT
The District is IDS Vancouver’s popular cash and carry neighbourhood that features fresh collections of design products for the home. The marketplace is the show’s mecca for the most exclusive and popular finds in home and decor. Featuring evolutionary designs, the line-up of exhibitors includes some of the most renown names in home design & décor like Saige & Skye, Urbanwalls, Maria Roth Design and bloc amongst others. A cult favourite amongst industry insiders and consumers, after all, who doesn’t like to shop.

The 13th IDS Vancouver takes place at Vancouver Convention Centre West, from September 28 – October 1, public is welcome Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1, weekend passes and single day tickets are on sale at vancouver.interiordesignshow.com
