My Chemical Romance – Rogers Arena – August 31, 2011
Co-headlining the 10th Annual Honda Civic Tour with Blink 182, My Chemical Romance shed their emo styled past and played a pretty straight ahead rock show. Lead singer/songwriter Gerard Way has traded in his jet black hair and attire for bright red dye-job and more upbeat stage persona.
Although the songs are the same, the angst seems to have given way to a more uplifting rock edge. Gerard still leads the band with a his considerable stage presence, interacting with the audience with just the right amount of wit and bravado. Playing songs from albums “Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge”, “The Black Parade” and “Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys”, the band got the audience up and dancing, asking the crowd to ‘safely’ form the largest mosh pit on the floor. With mosh pit truly formed, they whipped through their set far too quickly for the audiences liking but I’m sure they’ll be back for more soon.
