We move into the second half of February and let’s see what’s on to entertain us in these picks of the week
Fairytales: Tonight, join MISCELLANEOUS Productions for a free Facebook Watch Event, Resurrecting Dead Fairy Tales, with renowned folklore and fairy tale expert Jack Zipes examining the importance of little-known tales from the first half of the twentieth century, created for youth audiences.
Books: The annual JCC Jewish Book Festival is coming to the comfort of your home from February 20 – 25th featuring virtual events and conversations with an exciting roster of writers from across Canada, the US, Israel, Great Britain and Chile.
Dine: It’s the tastiest time of the year in Vancouver! Dine Out Vancouver Festival returns for its longest run ever. From February 5th to March 7th, over 330 restaurants (most ever) will serving multi-course menus at set prices starting from just $15.
Shadows: If you missed Gateway Theatre first workshop on Chinese shadow puppetry, lead by artist Annie Katsura Rollins you have another chance to participate February 21st.
Orchestra: Vancouver Symphony Orchestra‘s digital theconcerthall.ca is debuting The Resilient Symphony, with special guests James Ehnes, Itzhak Perlman, k.d. lang, Geddy Lee, Steven Page, and many more in an evening of music and stories, joining the others still streaming productions from throughout the season.
Youth: Carousel Theatre for Young People (CTYP) is playing the second production in its AudioPLAY season, Rishi & d Douen, an interactive audio performance produced by Rumble Theatre, recommended for children ages 6+, streaming until February 28th,
Paddle: BC Sports Hall of Fame’s newest exhibition, Paddles Up! The Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Exhibit explores the Dragon Boat Festival’s history since the sport’s arrival at Expo 86.
Dance: A new national initiative, Digidance, formed by Harbourfront Centre (Toronto), DanceHouse (Vancouver), National Arts Centre (Ottawa), and Danse Danse (Montreal) debuts with the Canadian film premiere of internationally renowned Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite’s work Body and Soul, performed by the Paris Opera Ballet.

Provocateur: Pi Theatre’s Provocateurs Presentation Series begins February 18 & 19 with Macbeth Muet, an innovative interpretation of Shakespeare’s play performed by two actors using elaborate sound design, physical theatre, then February 20 & 21 brings the Canadian premiere of Frequencies, a mixed reality techno confessional performance.
Films: Turning Point Ensemble (TPE) has launched 1+1+1+ : a film project with the first three films launched now streaming.
Earthquake: The Museum of Anthropology (MOA) at UBC’s newest exhibition A Future for Memory: Art and Life After the Great East Japan Earthquake, is running until September 5, 2021
Montreal: The Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra (VICO) is making its first-ever appearance in Québec…virtually by opening the renowned Festival Montréal / Nouvelles musiques (Montreal/New Musics Festival) on digital Thursday February 18, 2021.

Colour: Now open at the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art find the Western Canadian premiere of running from February 3 –May 9, 2021.
