Halloween is upon us! As the spooky season comes to a close, see what entertainment lies beyond in these picks of the week.
Witch: In the brilliant Yaga at Gateway Theatre rumours of an ancient witch in the backwoods casting her dark powers upon a small town catapults the supernatural police comedy mystery into a must see show to start off the Gateway Theatre Season, until November 2

Murray: Wrapping up Halloween, The Beaumont Studios, presents another one-of-a-kind event dedicated to everyone’s favorite comedic legend, Keep Calm and Murray On promises to be the ultimate Bill Murray-inspired experience.
Ghost: Closing November 2, Metro Theatre visits spooky season with The Woman In Black, based on Dame Susan Hill’s terrifying ghost story, adapted to stage by Stephen Mallatratt and starring Vancouver theatre icon Bernard Cuffling as the aging solicitor Arthur Kipps
Woman: In an unusual coincidence, a different production of The Woman in Black takes to the Anvil Theatre stage in New Westminster from October 31 to November 3
Nights: Until October 31st, Vancouver’s favourite halloween haunt scares up the fun as Fright Nights rises from the grave at PNE Playland to allow visitors tol creep through an array of haunted houses, entertainment, spooky foods, night rides & attractions all guaranteed to make this a scare this Halloween season!

Frights: Until October 31, the spooktacular Canyon Frights at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park offers a fantastic fright for families to take a thrilling journey through the chills and thrills around every corner of the frightful forest
Pucks: The Vancouver Canucks play host to New Jersey Devils at Rogers Arena tonight at 7:30pm
Opera: The 65th Vancouver Opera season is underway with Johann Stauss II’s witty and engaging operetta Die Fledermaus featuring updated comedic (English) dialogue linking the singing (in German) with the mid-century modern aesthetic of the sets and costumes. Three more performance take place October 31st, November 2nd and 3rd.
Festival: The Chutzpah! Festival returns November 1-10 with a vibrant lineup of music, theatre, comedy, dance, and multimedia arts performances showcasing exciting international artists through a multicultural Jewish lens.
Comedy: Canadian funny man Russell Peters brings his stand-up tour to the Rogers Arena stage on November 1st
Vimy: Until November 3rd, Firehall Arts Centre presents the Vancouver Premiere of Ridge, by Brendan McLeod and The Fugitives, takes a look at the “battle that made Canada” through direct storytelling, verbatim theatre, and live music with The Fugitives’ inventive musical interpretations of WWI soldier songs
Choir: United Voices Choir presents Remembrance and Reflection: a concert program of inspiring choral works including movements from Mozart and Fauré taking place November 2 at 2pm at St Paul’s Anglican Church and November 3 at 7pm at Pacific Spirit United Church
Stand: Presentation House Theatre and Blackout Art Society co-present the Theatre Series of the 4th annual STAND Festival, a celebration of immigrant and refugee performing artists from November 1-17
Heart: The 21st Annual Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival, brings over 100 events, centred on a theme of Threads of Connection, to venues around the Downtown Eastside until November 10.
Dance: Thursday October 31, 2024 at Noon, The Dance Centre presents the Discover Dance! series gets underway for the season with Corporeal Imago, a company is known for breathtaking work combining aerial acrobatics, contemporary dance and visual theatre.
Singers: November 1st at Shadbolt Centre, BLAK by Krystle Dos Santos, with Dee Daniels and Dawn Pemberton, is a powerful musical journey celebrating notable Black Canadian women in music.
Comedy: It’s the last weekend for The Improv Centre on Granville Island to bring you laughter with its feature show, Betrayers, on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm

Sexy: This week, The Arts Club On Tour takes the contemporary Canadian comedy Sexy Laundry, by acclaimed playwright Michele Riml, on the road to Evergreen Arts Centre in Coquitlam until November 2
Sing: Irish Singer-Songwriter-Producer Roisin Murphy plays the Vogue Theatre on Sunday November 3rd.
Blockbuster: Head to a galaxy far, far away as Movie Nights with the VSO present Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back on November 1 & 2 at 7pm at The Orpheum
Art: Vancouver Civic Theatres presents a free Visual Arts Open House in the lobbies of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre with the visual arts exhibition featuring the work by Sally Clark and Michael Slobodian.
Future: Until December 15th, Griffin Art Projects presents Future Worldings, a group exhibition of six artists whose practices have an emphasis on decolonial practices
