The kick off to Dine Out Vancouver Festival 2015 brought throngs of diners out to fill the city’s restaurants on Friday night.
Venturing out without a reservation we were lucky to get the last two seats at Taboo Kitchen. The recently opened Yaletown restaurant is a modern, stylish room is featuring a $28 Dine Out Vancouver Festival menu to highlight some of their Korean-fusion dishes.
The menu options showed a cross section of their fresh, simple cuisine and Korean dishes with a Western hint. We were welcomed with the traditional banchan (sidedishes), they too were a unique plate – Brioche, house-made Kimchi and spicy sweet potato.
My meal selections were a fresh and tangy Pickled Beet Salad, a sizzling, spicy Bibimbap & crispy Almond Dduk (Asian rice cake). Billy chose the Korean-Italian hybrid Mandu Ravioli Soup, a Tagine served Korean Sous Vide Galbi and a sweet Ginger Creme Brule. Everything was beautifully presented and flavourful with a combination of Western & Asian tastes that perfectly represents Vancouver.
While Taboo Kitchen may not be the authentic Korean experience one gets on the west end of Robson Street, the restaurant is well located in Yaletown. If lunch or dinner isn’t in the plan the bar menu featured a selection of Korean flavours like the tasty Soju-tinis we had along with dinner.
Find Taboo Kitchen at 1233 Hamilton Street (south of Davie).
