British Columbia’s premier stadium is about to get another new upgrade with the introduction of upgraded synthetic field turf. The new turf coming to BC Place is called LigaTurf RS+CoolPlus World Cup Edition 260 W ACS 90 Bionic Fibre Infill is to be installed by Burnaby’s Centaur Products Inc. The new turf is rated to meet FIFA 2 Star Grade / World Rugby Regulation 22 standards making our already world class facility even better.
While it’s still not the natural grass many have been calling for, the $1.3 million upgrade is being done this May to allow the FIFA Women’s World Cup to be a better experience for fans and athletes. The new turf also meets the needs of next year’s debut of the Rugby Sevens tour. The endorsement of the Whitecaps and BC Lions which both call BC Place their home field along with the FIFA Women’s World Cup organizing committee and Rugby Canada shows the excitement for all involved to play on the new pitch.
As fans, the turf’s more realistic playing surface and better experience for the players should translate into a better experience too. We’ll see in June when BC Place debuts the new field.
