Last night, Vancouver foodies got their Noodles on in a big way with the 2017 edition of Vancouver Foodster’s Noodlemania.
Kicking off with a healthy visit to Commodity Juicery on Fraser Street, patrons checked in to receive their Noodlemania maps, and a cup of Jasmine Mylk Tea with Chia Pearls, their unique take on bubble tea. Along side the tea was their noodle dish, a refreshing bowl of spiralized Zucchini ‘noodles’ topped with a zesty dressing.
Then we set off into the cold night on a journey to discover noodles in their varying forms of noodles from around the world and around the city.
At Organic Acres Market on Main, Skylar and Chloe from Kids Can Cook Gourmet were serving their Organic Marinara Sauce with Fettuccine and freshly grated Parmigiano Reggiano
At Main & Broadway, Chutney Villa is an institution and they served up a very spicy and flavourful Sri Lankan style seafood noodle dish with Shrimp, Squid, Egg and Vegetables.
At a small strip mall on Renfrew at Broadway, the 8 month old Basil Garden Pho was a modern, stylish eatery serving a heaping noodle soup bowl from a choice of three different options; rare Beef, Brisket and Beef Balls Rice Noodle Soup, Satay Peanut & Beef Rice Noodle Soup, or Vegetarian Noodle Soup with assorted Vegetables and Tofu.
Next was a trip to the East Village where we visited Thailicious, for a duo of Thai favourites. Tofu Pad Thai – Rice Noodles in a tangy Sweet & Sour Sauce with Eggs, Tofu, Veggies and Peanuts and Chicken Pad See-ew – Rice Noodles and Chicken in a sweet Soy Sauce.
Lastly, we ventured downtown to Yaletown L’antipasto for another dynamic noodle duo, our first pasta pairing of Noodlemania. Classic Spaghetti Vongole started us off with al dente Spaghetti tossed in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Garlic, Chilies, Pinot Grigio and Manila Clams. The Second dish was Garganelli, short pasta in a rich, classic Tomato Sauce and topped with Parmesan cheese.
All the satisfying noodle dishes were just what a freezing cold night needed. Judging from the happy faces on the Noodlemania patrons, the dishes definitely hit the spot.
