There’s a new taco in town! TAKO is a funky fusion of Mexican and Korean cuisine, newly opened on Expo Boulevard, next to Stadium/Chinatown Station.
A great option before an event at BC Place or Rogers Arena, or a trip to Costco, TAKO’s take on comfort food are easy and tasty. We grabbed a few items recently and found all of them a good blend of both the Mexican and Korean flavours.
Bulgogi Bimibap Bowl – a good portion of rice topped with veggies, soft boiled egg and nicely prepared Beef Bulgogi. Not 100% authentic for a Korean palate but a good flavour for all.
BBQ Short Rib Burrito – a hearty grilled burrito filled with zesty kimchi friend rice, corn cheese and shredded BBQ short ribs. The tender meat melted into the rice and cheese so most bites were filled will all flavours. The spicy kimchi and the sweet BBQ sauce balanced each other nicely, to not me too much of either.
Seoul Chicken – a side dish of crispy boneless fried chicken bites with spicy red pepper paste atop a bed of crunchy corn tortilla chips. Although a side dish, Seoul Chicken would make a good light portion for lunch.
All three dishes we tried were satisfying and flavourful enough to make us look forward to returning to try some of the other food fusions on the TAKO menu. Tacos, Quesadilla, Poutine all blend the boundaries of flavour locations.
