For a second summer, Tasting Plates drew a big crowd of foodies across Burrard Inlet to taste the flavours of North Vancouver’s Lonsdale district. Still one of our favourite Tasting Plates, we hoped this year’s edition lived up to its 2013 predecessor…it did.
In spite of a raining summer evening, 300 Tasting Platers checked in on the Lonsdale waterfront, at the Pier 7 Restaurant. After collecting their Tasting Plates card, patrons enjoyed the amazing albeit soggy view from Pier 7’s upper level as we began our Tasting expedition with a pretty plate of Melon salad with yuzu atop Prosciutto Carpaccio served alongside a shell of Scallop Ceviche.
Next we headed up Lonsdale to find a little sweetness at Two Daughters Bakery. The cute little bakeshop, tucked into the back lane off 1st Street, offered up gluten-free, diary-free vegan mini donut and a rich and chocolatey brownie.
On the next block was a fresh, and cleansing Tasting Plate at ‘veggie-forward’ café PlantoPlanto consisting of Smoked Tofu Caprese Skewer, Beets with Feta, Wasabi Spiced Potato Salad & Sesame Soy Corn & Quinoa Salad.
Down the street at the bright and modern The Juicery Co we cleansed our palate with a trio of Tasting Cups: Vanilla Bean Almond Milk, Raspberry Lemonade and a cool Cocoa Acai Bowl topped with granola from Two Daughters Bakery.
Heading up the hill higher on Lonsdale, we find Rosemary Rock Salt, the fresh from the oven bagels on the their tasting plate included Montreal Smoked Meat on a Rosemary Rocksalt Bagel, Lox & Cream Cheese on a Bagel and a Sweet Rugelach Pastry
Nearby the intimate Little District was serving up a newspaper cone of Cod and Shrimp Fritters with Zesty Mayo.
Back down the hill, we found space in the popular Fishworks Restaurant we were treated to the much buzzed about Halibut Poutine, a flavour filled small bowl
Our final stop was the lower Lonsdale institution, Anatoli Souvlaki, the bustling Greek restaurant served up a comforting plate of Avgolemono soup (chicken rice soup with egg and lemon), Grilled Haloumi Caprese, Spanakopita, and Homous & Pita. Topping it off with a large glass of white wine, it was a nice way to cap off another great Tasting Plates exploring North Vancouver’s Lonsdale district.
